I'm drawn to rival relationships in general, as I can somewhat understand that dynamic thanks to my own experiences. As romance is somewhat of a foreign area for me, this allows me to understand the foreign from the angle of the familiar: that is, rival romances.
Additionally, due to certain experiences, I wanted to write something where those society would deem freakish or outcasts could experience love themselves. Most stories write their love interests as socially acceptable, and those that are outcast as those unable to be loved... why must that be so? I think it's not very fair. Even those deemed inhuman can feel, even if they have unbeating hearts.
